Finally, after nearly 8 years of waiting, Office users will now relish the addition of the famed ribbon interface onto the explorer in Windows 8.
Microsoft , in it’s Build windows 8 blog, has demoed the interface in a video, take a look :
The ribbon interface give us easy and instant access to various shortcuts that we frequently use and sometime, dig for, in the right click menu. However, i dont see any use for cut copy paste functions in the ribbon since most people know the keyboard shortcuts. But many still don’t, i have to agree, and it might be much easier for them to navigate. I like how the ribbon interface automatically brings on a set of tools according to the type of file or folder we have chosen.
Also, i feel if Microsoft sees this as an effort to bring touch interaction into the OS, sorry, it wont work well. Some people feel that it takes a lot of screen real estate, i too somewhat feel the same but we can live with it right ?
Have you seen the tablet demos of Windows 8 ? We are yet to see more demos of those kinda interfaces that suits touch. Hoping there is much more to Windows 8 than this Ribbon interface.

Sense is a beautiful UI overlay, that has been applied over all the HTC Android smartphones. Timely updates are one of it’s strengths.
Not too long ago, the HTC sensation marked the arrival of Sense 3.0, a revamped version of the much fancy UI. It has been now demoed in a video , take a look :
As you can see above, it just got a lot smoother and fancier with new widgets, animation and a boost in framerate.Bigger change though, is the lack of a bottom bar which is replaced by two buttons.
The Firesale of the HP touchpad was so crazy, right ? Well, things just got crazier, apparently one guy who bought the fiercely sold from an online retailer, says he got the TouchPad running Froyo(yeah, Android) out-of-the-box. Say what ?!
Here’s the proof :
This guy, wants to sell his DroidPad ( i call dibs on this ! 😛 ) on eBay for 499$ . May be you can get it from him and claim that bounty for running Android on the touchpad. Oh, and another person got hold of a similar DroidPad and has dumped the rom on Rootzwiki.
There are no theories on how this build on Android has landed on the TouchPad, this is no hack or mod. Engadget thinks it may be an internal dev device in Qualcomm. But how the heck did it go on retail ? Apparently it’s the Fire Sale to blame.

The first touch and type phone from Nokia , the X3-02 has been the main phone for me ,the past few days and i am mighty impressed !
This phone comes in the X series range of Nokia devices which are traditionally known as the XpressMusic devices, that always come with stellar music capabilities. X3-02 is a huge nod to that legacy. Mainly aimed at youngsters looking for a premium-looking music device with a wide range of connectivity options, X3-02 delivers and delivers strongly.
My first impressions :
Great build quality, very sleek and light , excellent music capabilities (for ex : loudspeaker is loud, crisp and clear, headphones perform great) very decent camera ( i mean it in a positive way, of course ). Software (S40 6th edition) is decent, but really needs multitasking capabilities and good social networking clients. Ovi store was good to use but apps were scarce. Keypad needs getting used to, due to the weird layout. That’s it for my impressions, read on for the unboxing video and some really close up snaps of the device.
Apple iPod touch 4th generation
Yes, i finally gave into the craving for iOS and got my long-delayed first iOS device, the ipod touch 4th gen. First lets see the key takeaways :
Ordered in ascending interests.
* Retina display ( 960X640 resolution with very high pixel density on a 3.5 inch display ) however it is TFT not IPS like iphone 4 , so viewing angles are bad.
* Apple iOS : Plethora of Apps, games and offers best browsing and in-app experiences. Does a little bit of saved state multi-tasking as well.
* Hardware : 1 Ghz Apple A4 SoC with 256 MB ram ( yes, not 512 like ip4 ) and Power VR SGX 535
* Looks : Very slim ( just 7.2 mm ) but very prone to finger prints on both front and the back. Stainless steel back is very much prone to scratches. Build quality is excellent but handling it can be really scary. So buying protection accessories like scratch guard and back cover is a must 😉
* Other good features include 720p recording and stills using back facing cam, front facing cam for facetime, Gyro for gaming.
So why i bought the ipod touch along with the N8 ? well ,that deserves a separate article , right ?
Read on for some photos and an unboxing video shot on my Nokia N8 using continuous autofocus mode 😉
