ASUS, today has revealed a new variant of a graphic card based on the AMD 6770 graphics chipset, which is a mid range graphics card.
What’s special about this card is the fanless design that allows literally a zer0 dB operation. The cooling method used here is a heatsink. Dubbed the directCU method of cooling, it features a massive heat sink, that is supposedly 95% larger and 16% cooler. This card will be an option for people, who hate the whiny fan sound that usually accompanies graphics-intensive games like GTA4 or Crysis.
Other miscellaneous advantages include slightly better performance thanks to the use of super alloys, increases the performance by 15% says ASUS. The GPU is DX11 compatible, has 800 stream processors ( please do not compare with Nvidia, the architectures are different ), and 40 texture units. All this, is supported by a 128-bit memory interface and a 850Mhz clocked engine. Only concern is what the heat levels will be like, considering there is no fan on the GPU.
Crysis 2 in DX11 awaits.
Price – Rs.9750/- excluding taxes, 3 years warranty.

Slightly lesser than the LG optimus 3D that launched a while ago for Rs.37,000/- , the HTC Evo 3D is a product created for a niche segment, the segment which is in awe of 3D as the future of technology. While i am not debating the 3D as the technology standard of the future, but as of now, the present, it is not yet mature for creation or consumption. Anyhow, the HTC Evo is still an impressive device in terms of raw specifications, the usability is a personal opinion though.
The device has a glass free 3D 4.3 inch display with a qHD resolution, it can toggle between 2D or 3D mode in the camera using a hardware switch. Other specifications include :
- Dual 5 Megapixel cameras
- 1.2 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon S3
- 1 GB of RAM
- Runs Android Gingerbread
- Battery capacity is 1730 mAh
Looking forward to buying this phone ? You better read some reviews first –
Myriam Joire from Engadget –
Ultimately, we’ve come to think of the EVO 3D as a Sensation with a lesser camera, cheaper materials, worse battery life, and without the ability to roam worldwide. But hey, it’s got 3D and the best dedicated two-stage camera button that’s ever graced a phone. That’s gotta be worth something, right?
GSMArena team –
The HTC EVO 3D is a device that strives to do it all and we are pleased to report that for the most part it delivers. However, competition is so intense today that it would be impossible to beat everyone at every level. The EVO 3D gets points for trying. Winners don’t pick their battles, you’d just be wise to pick your priorities.
Ross miller from thisismynext lists out the Pros and cons
3D optional (but does work!)
Small viewing angles for 3D
Some nasty software glitches
Symptoms of 3D can include dizziness, eye strain, nausea…
Decide for yourself 🙂 Let me know in the comments if you actually bought one of these
Here goes the rumor mill again. This time its Reuters reporting that Apple suppliers are purportedly buiding a cheaper version of the iPhone4 with just 8 GB of flash memory ( Are flash memory really costly at all these days ? i dont believe it )
Here’s what Reuters has to say :
(Reuters) – Asian suppliers to Apple Inc have begun manufacturing a lower-priced version of its hot-selling iPhone 4 with a smaller 8 gigabyte flash drive, according to two people with knowledge of the matter.
Apple usually sources from Toshiba and Samsung for flash memories but this time it looks like some other company is making it and doesnt want public to know its name. ( Hmmm fishy ). According to them, the 8GB version of the iPhone4, which initially launched with 16 and 32 GB version in black and then in white. Also, interesting to note if the flash memory alone will be a cost cutting factor, it can also be the display, which would be like the iPod, just TFT not IPS. We shall know soon.
More questions arise in my mind :
* Is this the iPhone nano everyone is talking about ?
* Will it launch only in emerging markets like India, China.. etc ?
* Will it launch as a TD-SCDMA device for China mobile which is the world’s biggest operator ?
Let’s hope all these questions are answered by Apple in a few weeks. Looking forward to cheaper iPhone 4 or the standard iPhone 5 ?
Great news for all you tablet crazy people out there. The much coveted Android honeycomb sporting ASUS EeePad transformer tablet has arrived on Indian shores, with a price tag of Rs.32,999/-.
What makes this tablet special ? Well, it’s the form factor !
Absolutely innovative stuff from ASUS. Clip on full size keyboard transforms the touchscreen tablet into a portable workhorse. Remove the keyboard and it transforms into a more portable tablet-y form factor. And it has a slew of ports that supports many interfaces like mini HDMI, USB with OTG capabilities ( Not supported in software yet ).
Other specs are like almost similar to other Honeycomb tablets with reference hardware such as : Dual core Tegra 2, 10.1 inch screen with 1280×800 resolution, 16/32 GB of mass memory, 1 GB of RAM..etc
Coming to the price, i think it’s a bit high considering the biggest competitor “iPad2” is priced much lesser at 29k. But the form factor is an attractive one, people looking for tablets as laptop replacements may find it worthy.
Finally , Apple have delivered , and how. The iPad 2 is launching in India on the 29th i.e Friday. As i earlier pointed out, those rumors have been proven right now. A slight change in prices though : Base Wifi 16 GB model costs Rs.29,500/– and the wifi+3g model will be available for Rs.36,900.
