Slightly lesser than the LG optimus 3D that launched a while ago for Rs.37,000/- , the HTC Evo 3D is a product created for a niche segment, the segment which is in awe of 3D as the future of technology. While i am not debating the 3D as the technology standard of the future, but as of now, the present, it is not yet mature for creation or consumption. Anyhow, the HTC Evo is still an impressive device in terms of raw specifications, the usability is a personal opinion though.
The device has a glass free 3D 4.3 inch display with a qHD resolution, it can toggle between 2D or 3D mode in the camera using a hardware switch. Other specifications include :
- Dual 5 Megapixel cameras
- 1.2 Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon S3
- 1 GB of RAM
- Runs Android Gingerbread
- Battery capacity is 1730 mAh
Looking forward to buying this phone ? You better read some reviews first –
Myriam Joire from Engadget –
Ultimately, we’ve come to think of the EVO 3D as a Sensation with a lesser camera, cheaper materials, worse battery life, and without the ability to roam worldwide. But hey, it’s got 3D and the best dedicated two-stage camera button that’s ever graced a phone. That’s gotta be worth something, right?
GSMArena team –
The HTC EVO 3D is a device that strives to do it all and we are pleased to report that for the most part it delivers. However, competition is so intense today that it would be impossible to beat everyone at every level. The EVO 3D gets points for trying. Winners don’t pick their battles, you’d just be wise to pick your priorities.
Ross miller from thisismynext lists out the Pros and cons
3D optional (but does work!)
Small viewing angles for 3D
Some nasty software glitches
Symptoms of 3D can include dizziness, eye strain, nausea…
Decide for yourself 🙂 Let me know in the comments if you actually bought one of these
Partnership still intact eh ?
HTC, the rapidly upcoming smartphone superpower is supposedly going to unveil new Mango based Windows Phone devices at an event taking place on September 1st, reports BGR.
According to BGR’s well placed sources, two new devices, namely HTC omega and HTC eternity are going to be introduced , and catch is, it’s a Windows Phone only event ! HTC is a big proponent of the Android ecosystem and it has recently confirmed that Android is it’s main platform. Isn’t it surprising that they are holding a Windows phone- only event ?
Also, according to BGR, the Eternity is a mango phone with a 3.7 inch display headed to AT&T, and Omega is a 4.5 inch mammoth headed to T-Mobile. Both same carriers if the merger goes through. So, i guess no love for CDMA, on the brighter side, the GSM devices would be globally available and soon it may launch in India too. If HTC markets them well enough, it should succeed here. Let’s see how the hardware specs hold against the slew of dual-core Android devices.
Here’s some startling information . According to Citi analyst Walter Pritchard, Microsoft gets $5 for every HTC device sold, which is a patent dispute settlement over an IP infrigement. So, if we calculate how much MS earned from HTC’s androids alone, 5$ for 30 million HTC androids, thats 150 million , more than what MS gets for windows phone ( 2 million licenses, each 15 $ = 30 million ).
Also, supposedly, MS earns from other Android manufacturers too, nearly 7.50 $ to 8 $ per device. Now, we know why MS bought skype , right ? Just kidding. Point is, it earns more from Android than Windows Phone.
Another interesting claim is that, Android OEMs barely get 10 – 15 % margin for smartphones and 2 – 3 % for Tablets. All those numbers just make partnering with Microsoft just better, eh ? No wonder, Ballmer famously proclaimed ” Android is not free “. Numbers look sad for the OEMs but i am wondering how they manage to cook so many devices with such low margins, arguably.
However, all these numbers are from a single analyst, so let us not judge immediately , wait for others’ take on this matter. Am sure this will spread like wildfire.
