Hey @Nokia, there’s a new kid on the block

You might have already known this by now if you had been following me on twitter ( @bharadc23 ), but there is a purpose in posting it here and now. Sole purpose is to provide clarity on my priorities and this blog’s future.

14th of October 2010 was the day this site became known in the Nokia community, thanks to this special unboxing video i made for my now year old blue N8 –

This site was started as a hobby to just share whatever news i found interesting, and obviously, Nokia news was very interesting to me, so i started sharing a lot of it here, interspersed with news from other companies as well. So, after some time, i felt i needed to concentrate on Nokia news elsewhere, hence i wrote for Jay Montano’s MyNokiaBlog starting January 2011. It went really well and i personally thank Jay for letting me write in one of the most influential Nokia blogs ever. I enjoyed getting noticed by a larger audience. Meanwhile, i was getting some review devices from Nokia and i was reviewing them here, along with the other company quintessential news features and opinions.

After some months of this routine, i had problems in getting myself back into writing mode, it was very hard, you might see the number posts in the recent months was nothing compared to my earlier starting months. I wanted to start afresh again, but it was really really hard writing every bit of tech news with work getting higher priority, so i was hard at thinking what to do, then this happened – Some thing spurred me to write a post about how i started writing about Nokia, and them everything dawned. I am absolutely a hard core Nokia fan because i have used Nokia phones and lived with them all my life. Hence –

I decided to start my own Nokia site, presenting to you — NokiaBuff.com ( Follow on facebook / twitter )

It will be all about Nokia and it’s ecosystems. I will provide you up to date Nokia news and reviews there.

What will happen to thegadgetbuff then ? It stays ! The Gadgetbuff will be outlet for opinions and reviews on other platforms. It is not possible for a single person to bring you up to date news on every platform, so i will be reporting on really huge game changing news, delivering my opinions from time to time on whichever i find debatable and interesting.

So, that’s it. I am proud to join the Nokia community as a real Nokia blogger now. Wish me luck ! Please do visit the site if you are a real Nokia Buff ! See you on the other side.

Don’t forget thegadgetbuff too, classy opinions coming when big stuff like ICS and other iNews happens ! 😉

Nokia and social media : my perspective, my journey

Nokia is well known for it’s powerful slogan : Connecting people, how do they actually connect people ? Through mobile phones, of course, but that doesn’t stop there.

Social media, as we know by now, is very powerful in terms of scale and accessibility thanks to the giants like Facebook and Twitter. But the real power lies in the way it is used. Handling of any type of media is tough. Ask any of the media related persons, they would gladly attest to it. So, how does Nokia come into this picture ?

Read on to find out how i perceive Nokia as a social media brand.

Ovi store web client now supports Nokia Drop | Transfer apps to phone directly over the air !

The chrome2phone equivalent for Symbian has arrived in style ! It has been implemented through Nokia Drop which is already a great service to send links and wallpapers to phone.

This is what Drop usually does :

  • Change your phone’s wallpaper
  • Send image  to your phone (Note: images are send as a link and will be downloaded to mobile via Nokia Drop application)
  • Send URL to your favourite phone browser (ie. Nokia Browser or Opera Mobile)
  • Send map view or send selected location from maps.nokia.com
  • Send feeds to Nokia Reader or to native browser web feed

Now it supports this :

NEW: Install apps, wallpapers, themes, ringtones from Ovi Store without SMS

“Nokia Drop uses Push Notifications, so no cable or Bluetooth connection is needed.”

Just like Chrome2Phone right ? 🙂

Good to know that many trivial features like these are *still* coming for Symbian, hope everything is replicated to the next version of Windows Phone !

Check out the Video :

Available for all Symbian^3 users ( v1.3 )

Nokia launches the 100 and 101 – 20 and 25 euros respectively

Here come the most affordable Nokias that the world desires and still buys in emerging markets aplenty.

The Nokia 100 is a basic color display phone with FM, made for people who look for ease of use. It has down to earth features and is very reliable. Since it’s a Nokia, battery may come for around 4 days with a single charge. Priced at 20 Euros, this phone replaces the 1208.

The Nokia 101 is a Dual SIM version of the Nokia 100 with a the addition of mp3 player and a micro SD card slot for expandable memory. It’s priced at 25 Euros.

Both the phones feature a beautiful keypad for the best texting and great radios for the basic GSM calling experience. The Dual SIM 101 can remember upto 5 SIM cards which were used with the phone. I think the remembering part means the settings related to the SIM and the contacts ? I am not sure.

Nokia Essence – NFC bluetooth headset that brings 99% noise cancellation in a small package

Well, look what we got here, a beautiful NFC enabled BH-214 successor in a compact package. Well done Nokia !

The Nokia Essence features a stereo bluetooth headset with NFC pairing and i designed similar to the BH-214 except the 3.5 mm jack is not present in this device. The in-ear phones are now in black, woo !

Best part is the Noise cancellation, nearly 99% of the ambient noise is cancelled and provides you a clean music experience with this headset. And NFC pairing will make it very easy for you to connect/disconnect with a touch. I know it s a big usability boost cos i am suffering a connection disconnection inconvenience with my Bh-214 and the N8 even though they are allowed to automatically connect. This device works with any bluetooth 2.0 compatible phone and also the present 5 NFC enabled Nokias that are available in the market ( Nokia 700,701,600,C7 and N9 )

Complete specifications here.

No prices mentioned in Nokia’s page, let’s see what it is when they ship it.

This too, has NFC like the 700/701 and features all the innovative things Nokia has put into implementation for NFC.

Priced at 180 euros, this will be best smartphone in that price range no doubt about that. Will sell loads in emerging markets if marketed right.
